African Canadian Legal Clinic recognizes achievements of youth in Lawrence Heights

African Canadian Legal Clinic

On August 14, 2008, the African Canadian Legal Clinic (ACLC) hosted an appreciation dinner at the New Heights Community Health Centre to recognize the achievements of several young leaders from the Lawrence Heights community. Five youth took part in the YCF-funded Lawrence Heights Awareness Program, a twelve-week initiative consisting of a series of workshops and discussions that heightened their awareness of their African roots as well as their knowledge of the Canadian legal system. This dynamic group then constructed and delivered a series of educational workshops to their peers in several of the 13 priority neighbourhoods. At the event, the youth were presented with certificates of appreciation and heard encouraging words from special guest Mary Anne Chambers, former Minister of Children and Youth Services.
