What We Do
Please note: There will be no further calls for applications or proposals for YCF funding. YCF is currently focused on working with the 111 youth-led initiatives it has funded to monitor and support their implementation and development.
If you are involved in a youth-led organization in one of Toronto’s priority neighbourhoods, we encourage you to look at the complete list of Funded Initiatives to find an initiative in your area with which you may be able to collaborate.
WHAT WE’VE ACHIEVED
United Way Toronto, through the commitment and generosity of donors, has raised $15.8 million in support of the Youth Challenge Fund. The Province has matched this investment, bringing the total amount raised to $46.6 million. As of March 2009, the YCF Board has approved all funding for allocation to 111 youth-led initiatives across the 13 priority neighbourhoods.
Between October 2006 and December 2007, YCF received applications from groups of youth across the 13 priority neighbourhoods with great ideas for how to make a difference in their community. YCF provided funding to youth-driven initiatives that fell under three categories: Creating Youth Spaces, Building Great Ideas and Investing in Youth.
From January 2008 to March 2009, YCF worked with a select number of initiatives to develop proposals for larger initiatives focused on capital investments and collaborative partnerships. We want to ensure that our work lives on in the spaces we have helped create, as well as the partnerships we have helped form between underserved, racialized youth and community organizations and institutions across the city.
WHAT’S NEXT
YCF is working with its trustee and Partnership Steering Committee to ensure all funded initiatives are actively monitored and supported through to their completion up to 2013.
We are also focused on facilitating relationships with our partners across the city – from community-based organizations to public institutions – in order to ensure they continue to form strategic collaborations with youth. We want to encourage the sustainability of our efforts, and ensure these organizations continue to work in a new way to achieve systemic transformation.
