Youth Leadership in Educational Attainment with Partners in Scarborough
The Youth-LEAPS initiative will develop and implement a coordinated, community-based response to educational attainment in Toronto’s east-end priority neighbourhoods. It will create supports for racialized and criminalized youth who are ‘falling through the cracks’ of the existing education system.
Youth-LEAPS will secure a space where youth can access various community supports while studying in an alternative learning environment that offers relevant curriculum and programming. Youth will obtain high school credits and work towards completing a GED.
Ultimately, the initiative will work to advocate for change in the existing educational system, to adopt an effective alternative model for educational attainment. Youth-LEAPS also aims to change the way community services are delivered, encouraging service providers to work together as partners rather than competitors.
