The Youth Safety Ambassador Project will incorporate a community capacity building model and a peer leadership strategy to increase the positive influence of youth in the safety of their local communities. Facilitators will provide training for youth in group facilitation, popular education and community development principles, delivered from a harm reduction perspective. Youth participants will receive training to conduct safety audits, encourage safe dating practices and address issues such as violence. Much of the curriculum will be developed based upon input from participants and will reflect the specific needs of each community. The training will also provide a forum for youth to express ideas and begin a dialogue about the commodities and differences between their neighbourhoods.
