Tropicana Community Services: Involve Youth
http://www.tropicanacommunity.org/
The Involve Youth model will provide opportunities for local youth to develop skills in civic engagement as well as gain confidence and ability to navigate through various community challenges and at various decision-making levels. Participants will work towards reducing barriers faced by African-Canadian and other racialized youth who face similar barriers by participating in community planning, social action, and organizational and government decision making opportunities. Moreover, participants will work to improve their communities by creating community-specific activities and supporting local youth to examine the causes and manifestations of marginalization. Participants will work together to seek new ways to overcome marginalization. Youth will also be supported to develop engagement and advocacy skills and gain access to institutions so that their voices and solutions can influence decision making at the community level and within said institutions. Also, the Dance Mahali project will accommodate a dance/fitness studio as requested by numerous youth groups. Youth from the community will have the chance to be involved in the development, planning and decoration of the space.
