Gashanti Unity
The initiative focused on building the capacity of young Somali women through retreats, workshops and training sessions. 6 youth participants completed training on various skills related to starting a community initiative, including: visioning, strategic planning and organizational capacity building. They gained experience in networking, managing projects, planning retreats and community outreach. All participants had leadership roles and took ownership of the initiative by being involved every step of the way.

GTANL's Girls Can Play initiative focuses on promoting physical activity, leadership and skills of young women by increasing their participation in sports. It offers an 8-week netball skill-building program and a 6-week leadership development program.

The ROSE (Real Opportunities for Success in Education) Project focuses on providing academic, educational, and familial support to youth who are at risk of dropping out of school or who are missing a few credits to graduate.
Read More...Heritage Skills Development Centre (HSDC)
The initiative engaged youth in entrepreneurship, using the arts as a tool. Housed in a TCHC space, the initiative led cultural programming such as drumming, dance and theatre, as well as workshops in graphic design and creative writing. The program also included a tutoring and mentorship component. A total of 24 youth participated in the one-year initiative, which ran twice a week.

HOODLINC’s ROSE Project (Real Opportunities for Success in Education) is a unique youth-led initiative designed to address the low high school graduation rates and post-secondary school enrolment for youth living in the Malvern neighbourhood. A collaboration with the Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB) and a recipient of first-round YCF funding, ROSE offers an alternative education, nutrition and leadership program for youth who have been expelled or streamed from school and who are at risk of dropping out. ROSE also engages youth through recreational activities that enhance the academic component of the program, reaching youth beyond those supported within the school environment.
