For Youth Initiative: VICTORY!

The VICTORY! newsletter provides youth from the Weston-Mt.Dennis community with a platform to share their lived experiences through literary and artistic expression.

Participants attend weekly meetings to brainstorm topics and plan the layout. Since the production of the first issue, youth have invited guest speakers to strengthen their knowledge. The process of creating the newsletter gives youth an opportunity to build skills in writing, photography, graphic design, marketing and promotion. Facilitating community outreach sessions has also helped participants build skills in public speaking and community engagement.

Since receipt of Round 4 YCF funding, the initiative has engaged a core group of 14 youth as well as contributing members to outreach, promote, design, edit and write articles for the newsletter. Recognizing the importance of the Internet as a promotional tool, they have registered a web domain for the newsletter.
