Art Starts Neighbourhood Cultural Centre: One World Glendower

The One World initiative provided youth from Glendower an opportunity to research, design and implement a music program where participants can explore musical composition, beat making, vocals, and recording.

YCF funding supported a community consultation, led by one young person who engaged six other youth to conduct research and participate in planning and developing the program. Over 250 youth and community members completed a questionnaire developed by the youth to inform the design and implementation phase of the program, making this initiative truly driven by youth and the community.

Through their involvement in the development process, youth leaders have built employable skills while broadening community networks. Since they designed and completed the research,  they felt ownership of the program and developed a sense of achievement as they worked towards a common goal. They also learned how to write applications for funding and have been successful in receiving two additional funding grants, which will support the implementation of the music program.
