Recognize the Real

The initiative engages 60 youth in a weekly basketball and literacy program. The program was focused solely on basketball in the past, but with YCF funding it was able to expand to introduce a literacy component and Reading Circle.

20 young people completed the first Reading Circle program, where they created a graphic novel and discussed problems and issues facing the Jane-Finch community.

Youth report an improved attitude toward literacy and creative thinking. They have improved their ability to communicate openly and critically, and are beginning to understand how to make healthy choices for themselves that have a positive long-term impact in their lives.
